My Ten Best Fantasy Movies
From RoyalWeb
My Top Ten Fantasy Movies by Will Johnson, freelance biographer, wjhonson@aol.com
By "fantasy" here I include movies related to magic and other types of supernatural events, but not to science fiction which I include under the "Science Fiction" heading.
Of course the number one movie on everybody's list has to be
Wizard of Oz 1939 MGM fantasy movie starring Judy Garland, Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Bert Lahr, Jack Haley, Billie Burke, Margaret Hamilton and Charley Grapewin from the book by L. Frank Baum. Clara Blandick who plays "Auntie Em" was not credited in the opening credits but is named in the closing credits.
In no particular order the other nine top fantasy movies must include:
- Legend starring Tom Cruise
- Bedknobs and Broomsticks starring Angela Lansbury and including Roddy McDowell
- The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003), based on the book by J.R.R. Tolkien
- The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002), based on the book by J.R.R. Tolkien
- The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), based on the book by J.R.R. Tolkien
- Scrooge starring Alastair Sim
- Mary Poppins starring Julie Andrews
- Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty
