Uriah White (1798-1862)
Uriah White was born 1797/8 (52 in 1850, 62 in 1860). His birthstate is given variously as South Carolina (1850 Census) or North Carolina (1860 Census). His wife's name was Hannah.
That she was previously a Gallion, and that they had eleven children, are two facts given in the Goodspeed Biography of their son James White (1831-). This biography also gives an exact date in 1848 for when Uriah came from Lincoln County, Tennessee to Stoddard County, Missouri.
Uriah, as a citizen, was captured by the Union Army during the Civil War and transported to a P.O.W. camp at Alton, Illinois where he died a few months later.
