 Gavin Christopher Newsom was born 10 Oct 1967 in San Francisco County, California, the son of William Newsom and Tessa Menzies.  He has (or had) a younger sister Hilary B Newsom born Dec 1968.  His parents divorced in 1972.  At age ten Gavin and his mother (and sister?) moved to Marin County, California.

 His father William, a tax attorney, was appointed to the Superior Court bench in Placer County in 1975 by Governor Jerry Brown.  In 1978 he was elevated to the state Court of Appeal in San Francisco, from where he retired in 1995.  He manages the Gordon P Getty Family Trust.
 Gavin Newsom was appointed to a position by Mayor Willie Brown, later became a City Supervisor, and then was elected Mayor of San Francisco at the end of 2003.  Newsom was married to San Francisco prosecutor, Kimberly Guilfoyle, but they have since divorced.

 Maud Victoria Waithman was born 7 Oct 1888 in Pinos Altos, Chihuahua, Mexico, the daughter of Hubert W Waithman (1859-91) by his wife Grace Gertrude Winton, who married in 1887 in Oakland, Alameda County, California.  Maud had two siblings, Joseph deLindeth Waithman, and Grace Elizabeth Waithman, both also born in Chihuahua.  Hubert is said to have been "shot by bandits near the silver mines." [http://www.jenforum.org/waithman/messages/32.html] Hubert Waithman was the son of Joseph Waithman (b 1831) and his wife Elizabeth Sharp (d 1889), and Joseph is the son of William Waithman (1799-1869) and his wife Eleanor Armistead.  Elizabeth Sharp, is supposed to have some sort of connection with "Linden Hall" in Lancashire, England.
