 He was born in Granville, Massachusetts 5 Jun 1826.  He was named for his grandfather.  His father was a physician, Samuel Bancroft Barlow who married a descendent of Capt. Joe Wadsworth of Charter Oak fame.  There were several children by this marriage, with S L M Barlow being the eldest.
