Alice Tackett was born 18 Oct 1854 in Arkansas, as a daughter of George L Tackett (1830-65).

A family story states that she and her brother Marcus were raised by Edmond Pendleton Gaines Tackett [their first cousin].  This same Edmond settled George's estate and was later sued by Alice and Marcus.  In the depositions of that suit, it states that Alice lived with Edmond until she married, and that Marcus lived with Edmond until he was a teenager.

On Apr 2, 1860 George L Tackett at the Helena land office entered [http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/PatentSearch/Detail.asp?Accession=AR1760%5F%5F%2E377&Index=7&QryID=64266%2E45&DetailTab=2 160 acres by Cash Entry] at NW S33-T6S-R2W Arkansas County.  On the document he calls himself "George L Tackett of Phillips County".  On the same day and place he also enters 160 acres at NE S32-T6S-R2W, again by Cash Entry.  However on this document he calls himself "George L Tackett of Arkansas County".  These two pieces touch each other, forming a rectangle.
