She was born in Pittsburgh, the daughter of John Rodgers and his wife Lilie. John and Lilie also had a son Elmer born about 1913.  John Rodgers died in 1932. Lilie died in 1974.  Elmer, who became a Sealtest milk routeman was able to help his sister Delores complete her nursing training at Pittsburgh's Mercy Hospital.  Soon after she started work at the hospital, she met her future husband Charles R "Chuck" Lynch, Jr.

Chuck, the second of seven children, had grown up in Vandergrift, near Pittsburgh.  His father was a chemist.  Chuck went to the University of Pittsburgh where he studied business.  After college he went to work as an accountant at the General Electric plant in Pittsburgh.

Delores married Chuck Lynch on Jan 11, 1942 at the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Vandergrift.  They had two children: Jane "Janie" Lynch and Thomas John "TJ" Lynch.
