She was born in Pittsburgh, the daughter of John Thomas Rodgers and his wife Lillian "Lillie". John and Lillie also had a son Elmer born about 1913.  John Rodgers died in 1932. Lillie died in 1974.  Elmer, who became a Sealtest milk routeman was able to help his sister Delores complete her nursing training at Pittsburgh's Mercy Hospital.  Soon after she started work at the hospital, she met her future husband Charles R "Chuck" Lynch, Jr.
