Her parents George and Tamsen Donner starved to death while trying to cross the mountains into California. Two of their daughters: Eliza and Georgia, were cared for, for a time, by [[Christian Brunner|Christian]] and Mary Bruner who lived in Sonoma township, California Eliza married a lawyer from New York, Sherman O Houghton.
