Elizabeth Cecil, daughter of Richard Cecil, esq of Burghley This page writen and copyright 2007 by Will Johnson, Professional Genealogist. If you'd like to comment on it, you can email me at [mailto:wjhonson@aol.com wjhonson@aol.com] Elizabeth Cecil was born in 1525, the daughter of Richard Cecil by his wife Jane (Joan) Heckington. Elizabeth married firstly Sep 1555 at Upton to Robert Wingfield, esq of Upton, Northamptonshire (b abt 1532) and they had four sons and one daughter although not all the names of these children are known today. Robert Wingfield died 31 Mar 1580 at Tickencote, Rutland and Elizabeth then married Hugh Alington, esq of Tinwell, Rutland. They had no known children, which makes sense as Elizabeth must would have been 55 at this marriage. Hugh may have been quite a bit younger than Elizabeth, as Hugh's mother Anne Cheke, was the sister of Elizabeth's sister-in-law Mary (Cheke) Cecil. Of the known children of Elizabeth Cecil, who were all by her first husband Robert Wingfield : Dorothy Wingfield married Sir Adam Claypoole of Lolham, Northampton; Sir Robert Wingfield, Knt of Upton married Prudence Croke; and Sir John Wingfield married firstly Elizabeth Gresham and secondly Margaret Thorold (d 1618). Elizabeth Cecil was buried 6 Dec 1611 at Tinwell, Rutland, England where her second husband Hugh was also buried. Hugh left a will dated 2 Oct 1616 and proved 1 Oct 1618 (P.C.C.) ==Sources== *Vis England and Wales, "Alington", page 25
