Mrs. Lewis Stuyvesant Chanler of 132 East Sixty-fifth Street has announced the engagement of her daughter, Miss Elsie Benkard, to Charles H. Clarke of this city, son of Mrs. Charles Clarke and the late Mr. Clarke. Miss Benkard is the daughter of the late J. Philip Benkard and a granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Benkard, who for many years were prominent in New York society. On the side of her paternal grandmother, the former Miss Fanny Horton, Miss Benkard is related to prominent families in Boston. Miss Benkard is a granddaughter of the late Stephen H. Olin, a prominent lawyer in his day, who for many years was a trustee of the New York Public Library. Mr. Clarke during the World War was a Second Lieutenant in the 311th Infantry.
