Maud Victoria Waithman was born 7 Oct 1888 in Pinos Altos, Chihuahua, Mexico, the daughter of Hubert W Waithman (1859-91) by his wife Grace Gertrude Winton, who married in 1887 in Oakland, Alameda County, California.  Maud had two siblings, Joseph deLindeth Waithman, and Grace Elizabeth Waithman, both also born in Chihuahua.  Hubert is said to have been "shot by bandits near the silver mines."
