George was born possibly in Mooney Township, Phillips County, Arkansas.

On Apr 2, 1860 three Tackett brothers went to the land office in Helena to purchase land in Arkansas County.

George married an unknown first wife by 1854 and had two children Alice and Marcus.  This first wife is not listed with him and his children in the 1860 Federal Census.  He married again in 1861.

Many years after George's death, his three surviving children file a lawsuit against E P G Tackett, et al claiming mismanagement of the estate. E P G Tacket had been the administrator.  The lawsuit dragged on for several years, and contains several depositions.  In one of these, a Emily Honeywell, age 41 at 11 Nov 1884, states that "George was my uncle".  In 1880 Emma Honeywell is living, as a widow in Arkansas County, and in 1860 "Emly Tackett" age 20, born AR is living in the household of "E M Tackett" at De Witt.
