Henry Steel Olcott (1832-1907) Henry Steel Olcott already had a long career behind him and was working sometimes as a journalist, when he was asked to investigate the spiritualistic happenings at the Eddy Homestead in Chittenden, Vermont for a New York newspaper. While there he happened to meet and began a long relationship with Helena Petrovna Blavatsky. It wasn't long before they were investigating the Holmes in Philadelphia, and shortly afterward they moved in together into a flat in New York City, Henry leaving his wife and children to do so. When Henry wrote his foreword for his book People from the Other World, he dated it Jan 1875 from "No 7 Beekman Street, New York City". Henry was one of the founders of the Theosophical Society, along with Helena, and William Quan Judge. Henry and Helena moved to India while William ran the American section. Upon Blavatsky's death in 1891 (in England), Henry Olcott took over her role as President, until his own death in 1907. Upon his death, the society was then led by Annie Besant. ==Works== *People from the Other World, by Henry Steel Olcott.
