Mary Opal Fawcett's father [[Thomas Douglas Fawcett]] had moved from [[California]], probably from the area of Berkeley, Alameda County where his half-sister Emma was attending the University there, to the area of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomeroy,_Washington Pomeroy], [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garfield_County,_Washington Garfield County, Washington], with his mother and brother sometime between 1905 and 1909.  Meanwhile, Mary's mother [[Alta May Wright]] had also moved there, with her parents and sisters, from [[Arkansas]] sometime between 1904 and 1907.  Thomas Fawcett and Alta Wright were married in Pomeroy in 1915.  Mary, their second child was born there on 28 Apr 1918.

Between 1920 and 1926 the family had moved on to Kelso, Cowlitz County, Washington, and finally by 1930 to Snohomish, Snohomish County, Washington.  Mary Fawcett married [[Noel DesMarais]] on 15 Aug 1936 at St John's Episcopal Church in Snohomish, Washington.  Mary and Noel had four children, all born in Snohomish.  Their third child Alan died as an infant.

Noel and Mary lived in the social center of the small town of Clearview. Their northern neighbor was the community church, their southern neighbor the only bar in town, their western neighbor was the community hall.  Noel operated one of the only grocery stores in town during the Great Depression, but giving credit to too many people made him go out of business.  Noel then worked on the county road crew, eventually as a supervisor before he died in 1969, age 58.

Mary worked part-time in a bakery, and then for several years at K-Mart in Everett, until her retirement.  Mary died 17 Mar 1984 in a car accident in Snohomish County, Washington.
