Noel and Mary lived in the social center of the small town of Clearview. Their northern neighbor was the community church, their southern neighbor the only bar in town, their western neighbor was the community hall.

Noel operated one of the only grocery stores in town during the Great Depression, but giving credit to too many people made him go out of business.  Noel then worked on the county road crew, eventually as a supervisor before he died in 1969, age 58.

Mary worked part-time in a bakery, and then for several years at K-Mart in Everett, until her retirement.  Mary died 17 Mar 1984 in a car accident in Snohomish County, Washington.
