According to the New York Times (Dec 9, 1924) he married Anna Griffith Mark, daughter of Clayton Mark, "wealthy steel manufacturer of Lake Forest, Ill."  The secret marriage was announced and stated to have occurred on Nov 20, 1923.  The marriage was kept a secret until the birth of their first child on Aug 30, 1924.
