Stranger from Venus (1954) science-fiction added 27 Aug 09
starring Patricia Neal, Helmut Dantine, Derek Bond
Set in England.  After Patricia Neal crashes her car upon seeing a flying saucer, a stranger appears at a local pub.  After some initial suspicion, he finally states that he is from Venus.  Although essentially left unmolested, the Army and war department move in to take control of the "situation".  And as usual screw everything up.  Meanwhile Patricia falls in love with the visitor.  This is a fairly decent, watchable version of the visitor-from-another-planet movie.

Volcanic eruptions cause the melting of an ice cliff which exposes a long-frozen pre-historic giant praying mantis!  The creature then proceeds to fly to a warmer climate, while eating various plump humans along its path.
Your basic bad B-monster-movie, but it has moments.  Just moments.

based on the novel by Michael Crichton; starring Arthur Hill, David Wayne, James Olson, Kate Reid
Scoop 7 has crashed to Earth, evidently carrying an alien germ with it, which has wiped out a small town.  The government moves in, with scientists and a media blackout.  This movie was one of the best of it's kind for the 1970s, and it still plays well to today's audience.
The Omega Man (1971) science-fiction, starring Charlton Heston

City Beneath the Sea (1971science-fiction added 21 Aug 09
TV-pilot directed by Irwin Allen; starring Stuart Whitman, Rosemary Forsyth, Robert Colbert
Burr de Benning, Susana Miranda; special guest star Robert Wagner

A group of scientists and their crew find a giant gold statue on the ocean floor and then are mysteriously taken to an island where no land should be.  Throw in a giant octopus, a few fight scenes, and Nazi aliens and there you go.

[Edit]
Starship Invasions (aka Project Genocide) (1977) science-fiction added 18 Aug 09
    starring Robert Vaughn, Christopher Lee
Space aliens whose sun is dying, seek a new planet to colonize, so they visit Earth.  Meanwhile other space aliens want to stop them. Although Robert Vaughn gives a reasonable performance as a scientist who is enlisted to help the good aliens, some of the actors in this B-movie are pretty bad.  Only watch on a slow night, lots of other good stuff to see first.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) science-fiction

Dinossauros - Planet Of The Dinosaurs (1978), science-fiction adventure added 14 Sep 09
    produced/directed by James Shea

A spacecraft crew crashes onto a planet of dinosaurs.
    Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9
This is quite possibly the all-time worst dinosaur movie ever made.  You tell me.  The only thing that saves it from complete snoresville is boobs and muscles.

[Edit]
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) science-fiction adventure
starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Cushing, Alec Guinness
    directed by George Lucas

Flash Gordon (1980) science-fiction adventure  added 06 Aug 09
starring Sam J Jones, Melody Anderson, Ornella Muti, Max Von Sydow, Topol, Timothy Dalton
Brian Blessed, Peter Wyngarde, Mariangela Melato. Music by Queen
    Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9, Part 10, Part 11
When the Earth is threatened with annihilation by the evil Galactic Emperor Ming, only Flash Gordon can save the day.  This movie has more muscles than five gyms, a sadistic emperor, a mad scientist and a catfight between two beautiful women!  Who could ask for anything more?  In spite of all that, it's a family film, nothing extreme.
The Last Chase (1981) science-fiction buddy film added 8 Sep 09
starring Lee Majors, Chris Makepeace, Burgess Meredith
In the future and after a large-scale plague, the shortage of gas makes the government outlaw cars.  Lee Majors a former race-car driver decides to make one last road trip anyway.  Now being chased by Burgess Meredith in a jet plane that government has commissioned.
This is quite a bad movie.  It's a wonder Lee's career kept going after it.  But hey, Farrah had Saturn 3

[Edit]
The Thing (1982) science-fiction, directed by John Carpenter and starring Kurt Russell
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) science-fiction buddy-film
Chosen by Entertainment Weekly as "One of the Greatest Movies Ever Made"
Selected as one of the Greatest Kids Films
The Day After (1983) science-fiction
Strange Invaders (1983) science-fiction
Space Raiders (1983) science-fiction adventure added 1 Sep 09
starring Vince Edwards, David Mendenhall, Patsy Pease, Thom Christopher
    produced by Roger Corman
A young boy stows away on a pirates' spaceship.  The pirates take to him and decide to try to return him home even though no ransom is offered.
Warning: Roger Corman is known for sometimes producing really bad junk.  This is one of his better efforts.  The aliens are at least different.  The acting is passable although the film is still filled with Corman standards like emotional close-ups that don't fit the scene, plot elements left unexplained, long silent sequences and some jumpy cutting.  But hey, all-in-all, it's not too bad.

    Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9, Part 10, Part 11
They Live (1988) science-fiction

[Edit]
The Brain (1988) science-fiction horror, directed by Edward Hunt added 24 Aug 09
starring Tom Breznahan, Cyndy Preston, David Gale
Becky has schizoid episodes which cause her to murder her mother and then commit suicide.  Meanwhile "Dr Blake" is on an infomercial promising a cure for bad teen-aged personality behaviors.  Is there a connection?  Meanwhile, Tom Breznahan is a brilliant student but full-of-mischief so his parents send him to Blake's institute for "treatment".  Scary music now, you know the drill.  Almost spoofish, but some plot elements are creative, and the creature is at least decent.
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9

Leviathan (1989) science-fiction, starring Peter Weller, Richard Crenna
    Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9, Part 10
