How my partner and I are related

It's funny how if you draw your circles out large enough in genealogy research, you will eventually find a pathway, by which you and your spouse are related to each other. It's inevitable. The only reason you may not yet have found one yourself, is because you don't have 250,000 thousand people in your database as I do.

It's funny how if you draw your circles out large enough in genealogy research, you will eventually find a pathway, by which you and your spouse are related to each other.  It's inevitable.  The only reason you may not yet have found one yourself, is because you don't have 250,000 people in your database as I do.

At any rate, the relationship I've found, is not a blood relationship, nor one strictly "by marriage", but one of what I called Proximity.  The use of Proximity, allows linking through in-laws, as well as through parents and children, and for any number of steps.  So the sister of a man whose wife is sister to your husband, but not otherwise related to you in any other known way, would, through Proximity, still be only four steps away from you.  Those steps being "Sibling - Spouse - Sibling - Spouse - You"  with you standing in position zero, each connection represents just a single step.

Now using this method  here is how I am related to my partner, where I've merely marked "Living" for those who may have privacy rights (the dead have no privacy rights).
